Messi Forced Off With Injury In Inter Miami's Clash With Tor

Lionel Messi was forced off in the first half of Inter Miami's clash with Toronto FC, though his team-mates sealed a convincing 4-0 victory.

Messi lasted just 37 minutes on his return to action before he was replaced by Robert Taylor, who scored twice.

The Argentine was absent for Miami in the last two weeks due to international duty and an injury suffered against Ecuador.

Messi was not the only first-half loss, though, as former Barcelona team-mate Jordi Alba suffered an injury and was taken off three minutes prior as well.

Manager Gerardo Martino said the 36-year-old is carrying an "old injury" and would definitely be on the sidelines with Alba against Orlando City on Sunday.

"There is no chance they will be there on Sunday," said Martino.

"I know we have a final to play [on Wednesday] but they won't go near the pitch if they can't play. The scans [Messi] had with the national team, they didn't show any injury. We still saved him to be safe.

"We don't think he has a muscular injury. That's also from a conversation I just had with him. But we have to continue being careful. We'll look at it the next few days."

Miami have not lost any of the 11 matches in which Messi has featured since he joined the Herons from Paris St-Germain in July.

But should the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner be ruled out for a lengthy period, his absence could very well derail Miami's season, as the club has a U.S. Open Cup final against Houston Dynamo coming up on September 27.

Miami are also pushing for an unlikely playoff spot, with Messi being the Herons' ultimate trump card in the MLS.
