Meta Adds New ‘Calls’ Tab To Messenger

Meta Adds New ‘Calls’ Tab To Messenger

Meta has introduced a new dedicated tab for audio and video calls to the function bar at the bottom of the Messenger app.

The new call tab will appear alongside "Chats," "Stories," and "People," and will include a list of the user's contacts, as well as voice and video call options.

Messenger will now appear to be more like a messaging and calling software in the vein of WhatsApp.

The new feature is designed to allow users to call friends directly and may serve as an introduction to individuals who are unfamiliar with Messenger's calling features.

According to Meta, Messenger audio and video calling have climbed by 40% since early 2020.

Earlier this year, the business added emotions, stickers, message-specific replies, and forward to its encrypted messaging service.

In 2023, Meta hopes to make end-to-end encryption the default on Facebook and Instagram.

It has introduced a number of augmented reality features to its video conversations, allowing users to play with filters, masks, and animations.

Messenger will now join a lengthy number of competitors, including Google Voice, Viber, Signal, and WhatsApp, which was purchased by Meta in 2014.
