Meta To Shut Down Facebook's Nextdoor-Clone Neighbourhoods In October

Meta To Shut Down Facebook's Nextdoor-Clone Neighbourhoods I

Meta on Thursday confirmed that Facebook's Nextdoor-like features, Neighbourhoods will be shut down before it even becomes accessible to the majority of users.

As a dedicated platform where people can engage with their local communities, the social network was first made available to a restricted group of Canadian users back in 2020.

Last year, it broadened its tests and opened access to other cities across Canada and the US.

According to a screenshot of a post made by a Meta product manager that social media advisor Matt Navarra was able to obtain, the firm will stop testing Neighborhoods on October 1.

After that date, it will no longer be accessible.

On the website, groups focused on local communities are not novel nor uncommon, but Neighborhoods spaces have unique qualities including member-specific sub-profiles and designated moderators who would, among other things, assess comments and posts.

If a user doesn't want people in their immediate area to know too much about them, they can create different profiles with limited public information.

Through the Neighbourhoods page, users can also discover local-only groups for particular activities.
