Mexico Appoint Argentine Cocca As Coach Till 2026

Diego Cocca

Mexico's soccer federation (FMF) has named Diego Cocca as the new head coach of the national team, with a contract until 2026.

Cocca's appointment follows the exit of Gerardo Martino, whose contract expired after Mexico's elimination in the World Cup group stage last year.

Rodrigo Ares de Parga, Mexico's Director of National Teams, said Cocca was a good fit for the position due to his knowledge of Mexican football, strong tactical skills, and excellent team management.

The appointment of Cocca came a day after the termination of his contract with Mexican league side Tigres UANL, where he had been coaching for just three months. Cocca expressed his privilege and opportunity to help grow Mexico's national team and give back to the country that gave him so much.

He is known for leading Atlas to back-to-back league titles in 2021 and 2022, ending the club's 70-year title drought.

Mexico's goal is to qualify for the CONCACAF Nations League finals in June and reclaim the Gold Cup, which runs from June 24 to July 16 in the United States. They will also co-host the 2026 World Cup along with the United States and Canada.

Cocca is eager to start working with the national team in March and is confident that good results will come. He sees this opportunity as a chance to help Mexico grow and continue to develop as a top soccer nation.
