Miami Open: Daniil Medvedev Breezes Past Baena In Straight S

Russian fifth seed Daniil Medvedev sprinted to a 6-1 6-2 victory against Spain's Roberto Carballes Baena at the Miami Open on Saturday night.

The 2021 US Open champion hit 18 winners to his opponent's five to set up a clash with world number 56 Alex Molcan who defeated Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 7-6(5) 1-6 6-2.

This makes it his first win having lost last week's Indian Wells final to Carlos Alcaraz who snapped his 19-match winning streak.

Addressing the media after the match, Medvedev was delighted to return to winning ways and he joked about employing Alcaraz's drop shot technique to seal the victory.

"After my match with Carlos I thought I needed to use that shot more," he joked.

"I've always liked drop shots but it's not a weapon in my game that I'm going to use 50 times a match.

"You need to have confidence in the shot and today it worked pretty well."
