Mikel Arteta vs Frank Lampard: Pressure Switches With Results

Mikel Arteta vs Frank Lampard: Pressure Switches With Result

Arsenal's recent streak of win and Chelsea's defeats has switched the pressure from Mikel Arteta to Frank Lampard which started on Boxing day after the London derby.

AllNews understands that Frank Lampard lost emphatically to a coronavirus depleted City 3-1 at the Stamford Bridge bringing criticism to him much more than he got after the Arsenal match when he lost by the same margin on boxing day.

Several reports have suggested in London already that the Blues are already looking into an ideal replacement for Frank who spent over 200M euros in the summer transfer for the purchase of young talents all over Europe.

Chelsea is due to face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League and still are 9th on the table with 7 points from joint-leaders Liverpool and Manchester United - who also have a game at hand.

Criticism is part of the job of a coach when you go 3-4 games without a win and as a big traditional 6 in the English top-flight pressure builds and the suggestion of being fired starts sipping out.

ARTETA JUST GOT A BREATHER

Mikel Arteta was suggested as being in his twilight days at Emirate after consecutive game losses took him very close to the relegation zone. Yet, he managed to get himself back to the good eyes of both fans and board starting from the boxing day.

One thing that helped Arteta so much is the patience of the Emirate camp, and they believe that he is the man to take them into the future combined with 2 trophies that he clinched last season.

Another small factor which has also played in Arteta's favour is that he did not spend that much in the Transfer window with small purchases, loan deals in a cumulative of little over 50M euro spent.

That has eased the pressure on him but yet it was a difficult time for the Spaniard just before the turn of the new year.

Arsenal stars are also much adapted to life in England - most of the first team squad even if young have played in England throughout their life or at least spent 2-3 years in the league.

Saka, Lacazette, Tierney who were the recent heroes of the Emirate outfit have been playing the EPL for over 4 years and that has helped Arteta most especially in his difficult time.

LAMPARD IS IN TROUBLE

Lampard is in a more comfortable situation than Arteta but faces a greater pressure and risk of losing his job due to several factors as oppose to Arteta's.

First of all, is the owner of Chelsea FC, Roman Abramovich is not a patient man - sacking of coaches despite their accomplishments is routine for him, much less one with no accomplishment with his team.

Three notable mentions that would have crossed Frank Lampard's mind are - Jose Mourinho, Roberto Di Matteo, and Antonio Conte - Carlo Ancelotti can also be mentioned.

These four coaches had something great with Chelsea as they guided them to trophies laden season - especially Di Matteo who won Chelsea's first-ever Champions League.

He would have been tipped to last longer even when faced with a difficult spell given his feat but yet he started half-season and he could not even complete the following season after his great accomplishment.

Lampard lost three games and still at 9th, 7 points from the top and the pressure is so much that one could be looking at possible names to take over at the Stamford Bridge.

Another thing against Frank is the amount invested in bringing the team together - in rough estimates - it over 200M Euros

Timo Werner - €53M

Hakim Ziyech - €40M

Kai Havertz - £70M

Mendy - £22M

Ben Chilwell - £50m

Total = £235M

This is the major reason Lampard is being critically focused on as maybe he is not the right man for the job despite just 3 losses and still remaining in the top 10.

The loss against City happened while the £235M worth players were on the pitch and none of them got on the sheet, it took a second-half substitute of Callum Hudson Odoi who was not bought but moved through the club's rank and transfer value is £35M to score their consolation goal.

Statistically, a coach is more subjected to being sack after consecutive losses at Chelsea than Arsenal and that is why Lampard is going through his present predicament.

The next games are against Fulham (which he should win convincingly), Leicester City (a tough one), Wolverhampton Wanderers (at least a draw).

If Lampard can win at least two on the next three games we could another movement of pressure from him to another manager in the EPL - with Klopp probably the next as he lost his lead at the top of the table
