Mikel Suffers Racial Abuse In Turkey, Calls For Unity

Former Nigerian international footballer and team captain, John Mikel Obi, has reportedly been a victim of racial abuse in Turkey where he currently plies his trade in the Turkish first division with Trabzonspor.

The former Chelsea midfielder was racially targeted on social media after his side's 2-1 defeat of Fenerbahce last weekend, prompting his club to file a criminal complaint.

Following the incident, the 32-year-old, who helped his team gain the much-needed win over Fenerbache to move to the third position in the league table and a point above their rival, took to social media to call for unity and oneness after his experience.

Urging fans to stop the inhumane act, he tweeted, "We are all one and equal. It’s just a game at the end of the day.#saynotoracism."

At the end of his short-term deal at Middlesbrough last season, Mikel moved to Turkey to join the Black Sea Storm in July and he has made himself a key player in their midfield.

The 32-year-old has played 22 games across all competitions, including 14 Super Lig appearances this season.
