Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa'id Ahmed Alkali, has called on all Nigerian states to create their own Transport Policies to enhance the nation's transportation sector.

This call to action came during his address at the Kano State Transport Policy Dialogue, an event organized by the Kano State Government on Thursday.

He said, "I wish to congratulate the State for this laudable initiative and inform that my Ministry is ready to provide all necessary support for the finalisation of the policy."

He urged other states to follow suit, emphasizing that a well-developed transportation sector was crucial for Nigeria's progress.

"I therefore encourage other States of Nigeria to also kick start the development of their own Transport Policy so as to develop a well-developed Transportation Sector for Nigeria," he added.

He expressed delight that States such as Lagos and Kano have become trailblazers as they have recognized the need to provide a blueprint that would serve as a set of principles and ethos to guide their overall decision making for an integrated and functional transport system.

"I am particularly glad that the leadership of Kano State took to heart the resolutions of the recently concluded 18th National Council on Transportation(NCT) and convened this laudable event.

"I am very encouraged that the fundamental goal of this administration which is to develop an adequate, safe, secure, smart, environmentally sound, efficient, affordable, sustainable, preferred and integrated transport system is gradually being actualized," the Minister said.

He expressed optimism about the administration's goal of establishing a modern, efficient, and integrated transport system.

His words: "I am very encouraged that the fundamental goal of this administration which is to develop an adequate, safe, secure, smart, environmentally sound, efficient, affordable, sustainable, preferred and integrated transport system is gradually being actualized.”

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, explained that the dialogue was part of the administration's efforts to reform the public transport sector.

The Governor said, the reform aimed to introduce a "safe, reliable, effective and efficient inter-modal public transport system in line with global best practices."

Governor Yusuf highlighted several transformative projects in Kano's transportation sector, including the construction of three flyovers at Kofar Nasarawa, Obasanjo Road, and Murtala Muhammed Way.

He also mentioned the construction of two underpasses designed to alleviate traffic congestion.

"We have also constructed two underpasses all aimed at reducing traffic congestion which causes a lot of inconveniences to motorists," Yusuf added.

The Minister's support and the state's proactive measures reflect a shared vision for an advanced and integrated transport system across Nigeria.
