Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, disclosed that Ministers in Nigeria earn less than N1 million monthly.
Bagudu, a former Governor of Kebbi State, revealed this on Saturday during an interview on Channels Television,
He emphasized that the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMFAC determines their salaries and wages.
Bagudu stated, “Ministers, like every public official, have payments determined by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.”
He highlighted his preference for driving his personal Camry over the official vehicle provided to him, explaining, “I have one official vehicle. I don’t even use it because I have a Camry that I enjoy driving. As Minister of Budget, I want to lead by example.”
Addressing the issue of governance costs, Bagudu admitted that it is worrisome and noted his awareness of the country's financial allocations.
When questioned about the allowances ministers receive, he responded, “I don’t know of any defined allowance that a minister has, but I might be wrong. This is published, and I can share it with you because it is determined by RMFAC; there is nothing additional to that for a minister.”
