Mohbad: Iyabo Ojo slams Naira Marley with N1 billion in coun

Popular Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has responded to Nigerian street-hop artiste, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley's N500m lawsuit.

Naira Marley last week slammed Iyabo Ojo with a lawsuit demanding a public apology and the payment of N500 million for damages over the alleged dissemination of false and defamatory content on her Instagram account regarding the death of singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

The singer's lawyer in a letter outlined the accusations made in a September 2023 post, asserting that Ojo accused Naira Marley of causing mental harm to Mohbad, whom he referred to as a brother.

In a countersuit filed against Naira Marley on Monday, Iyabo Ojo accused the former of deliberately misleading the public and failing to serve her the lawsuit either in person or through mail.

In a legal statement by Ojo's lawyer, O. I. Salami, the mother-of-two, claimed that Naira Marley’s letter dated 12 December caused significant harm and tarnished her reputation among esteemed individuals in society.

Representing Ojo, Salami contended that the undelivered letter addressed to his client resulted in substantial financial losses within and internationally.

Aside from seeking financial reparation, the lawyer demanded a public apology on behalf of his client from Naira Marley’s legal representative.

He further accused the opposing lawyer of breaching ethical standards by publicly releasing the letter without confirming its delivery to the actress.

Ojo’s lawyer warned that if the apology is not forthcoming, they will be compelled to pursue appropriate legal action

The actress who described the singer's suit as potential blackmail expressed her hope to hear from Naira Marley's camp at no distant time.

The statement read in part: “Without any atom of ambiguity and iota of doubt, our client reiterates there is reasonable cause(s) to believe the said Naira Marley cannot be isolated from psychological trauma, mental torture, emotional outburst, agony and anxiety suffered by the late Mohbad, taking cognizance of the said event’s after Mohbad terminates its recording label record, viral gory video, cryptic songs, Mohbad’s petitions, threats and lastly, our client’s personal encounter with Mohbad and several others,” part of the statement read.
