The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has assured that the findings of the police investigation into the death of the 27-year-old rising singer Mohbad will be disclosed within two weeks

The assurance was given during a visit by Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo and several of her colleagues, who demanded justice for the late singer, DJ Splash, and raised concerns about cyberbullying on social media.

A planned peaceful rally was cancelled at the request of the police commissioner to avoid potential violence.

The delegation, which included Iyabo Ojo, Foluke Daramola, Kiekie, Chioma, and legal representatives, met with the police commissioner to make appeals and raise concerns about the tragic death of Mohbad and issues related to cyberbullying on social media.

During the meeting, Foluke requested a dignified burial for Mohbad and sought protection for his wife and child.

She stressed that Mohbad’s mother had consented to a proper burial following an autopsy.

Iyabo Ojo expressed concern about the prevalence of cyberbullying on social media platforms, especially among young people, and called for an urgent response to harassment and threats on social media.

She emphasised that such actions should have legal consequences and urged the police to explore the legal framework surrounding online threats.

The lawyer in the delegation advocated for the establishment of a dedicated social media desk to handle cyberbullying cases, offering a platform for victims to report incidents.

Chioma highlighted the lack of trust in the police force among Nigerians and urged the police to enhance their performance and instill hope in the younger generation.

Kiekie added that there should be no hierarchy and that youths should be given hope in the system.

CP Owohunwa expressed gratitude for the commitment to seeking societal justice and pledged dedication to upholding justice for all residents of the state, regardless of their social status.

He revealed ongoing efforts to establish a state-of-the-art complaint response unit in Lagos to streamline and digitize the reporting process.

Regarding Mohbad’s death, the police commissioner mentioned an ongoing collaboration with the state government to initiate a coroner inquest, adhering to due legal procedures.

CP Owohunwa assured the delegation that the police are actively investigating the case and emphasised the importance of evidence in the pursuit of justice.

He stated that results regarding Mohbad’s death would be available within two weeks, with videos being analysed to provide a comprehensive picture of the situation.

He emphasised the need to follow due process and maintain confidence in the investigative process.
