Naira Marley | Mohbad
Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has firmly denied any involvement in the death of Mohbad.
Since Mohbad’s death on September 12, allegations have emerged linking Naira Marley, the owner of Marlian Music record label (to which Mohbad was formerly signed), to the rapper’s demise.
In a statement released on his official Instagram handle on Tuesday evening, Naira Marley refuted these claims, asserting that he is not directly or indirectly responsible for Mohbad’s death.
He described Mohbad as a brother and a member of their music family, highlighting the misunderstandings that are not uncommon in the music industry.
Naira Marley explained that he had chosen to remain silent to avoid interfering with the ongoing government investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
He also revealed that he had been out of the country since August 31, 2023, but is making arrangements to return to Nigeria to cooperate with the authorities.
He vehemently denied being a drug lord, a cultist, or having any involvement in criminal activities.
Naira Marley emphasised his dedication to proving his innocence and providing sufficient evidence to clear his name of the allegations.
Additionally, he addressed the rumours surrounding Marlian Music, stating that the label is legitimate and focused on promoting exceptional talent, launching new artistes, and nurturing their careers.
Naira Marley extended his condolences to Mohbad’s family and urged the public to support the police and relevant authorities in providing information and evidence related to the rapper’s death.
He expressed confidence that the truth would ultimately prevail, exonerating him from the accusations.
The autopsy results regarding Mohbad’s death have not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
Naira Marley’s legal team is reportedly in contact with the police and government agencies to provide necessary assistance.
