In the late evening of Tuesday, news filtered in that Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, tragically passed away, according to reports from entertainment journalist Ovie on X (formerly Twitter).

Nigerian rapper Olamide seemingly confirmed the post via his X page with the simple tweet; “Damn! Mohbad” with a heartbreak emoji.

However, the exact cause of his death remains undisclosed at this time and there is no official confirmation yet.

Fans have taken to their social media pages to mourn the passing of the ‘KPK’ singer.

Mohbad garnered recognition and a dedicated fanbase for his musical talents, with hit singles such as ‘Ponmo’, ‘Feel Good,’ and his collaboration with Rexxie on ‘KPK (Ko Por Ke)’.

He was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records but parted ways with the label in 2022.

This tragic event follows recent revelations by his friend and colleague Bella Shmurda, who disclosed that Mohbad had attempted suicide during a feud with his former record label, Marlian Music.

Bella Shmurda explained that during their time together, Mohbad had contemplated jumping from a window due to the issues he was facing with his record label.

Fortunately, friends intervened and prevented the attempt.

Bella Shmurda further shared that Mohbad had undergone therapy sessions and received treatment for hypertension to address the challenges he experienced while with Marlian Music.

“There was a time, me and Mohbad were in an apartment and Mohbad was like he wanted to jump from the upstairs because of the issues he was having with his record label.

“We held him by the window. Mohbad had almost jumped, it was his girlfriend that entered the room and saw him sitting down at the window.”
