Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has made a plea for forgiveness from Nigerians in a recent interview with BBC News Yoruba.
He shared his regret and pain over the tragic loss of his son and recounted some troubling details about his son’s life.
Aloba revealed that his son had once confided in him about Naira Marley, a prominent figure in the Nigerian music industry, and expressed concerns about Marley being ‘evil’.
However, Aloba admitted that he didn’t take his son’s warnings seriously at the time, as he believed that Naira Marley’s manipulative actions had clouded his judgment.
According to Aloba, his son’s untimely demise occurred at approximately 3 pm, but he was not informed until he arrived at his son’s house around 10 pm.
The scene was crowded, and he was unable to secure a police report.
Due to the lack of space at the mortuary and his inability to bear the sight of his son’s lifeless body at home, he decided to bury him without proper documentation.
During the interview, Aloba implored Nigerians to forgive him if he had offended them in any way.
He expressed the depth of his love for his son, emphasising that nobody loved Mohbad as much as he did.
Furthermore, he shed light on the abusive experiences his son faced.
He mentioned that the first time he went to Naira Marley’s house, he witnessed Naira Marley sharing a meal with Mohbad, which touched him deeply.
However, Mohbad had previously warned him about Naira Marley's malevolent nature.
Aloba also described an incident in which Mohbad was physically assaulted by Samlarry, who he claimed had beaten his son before.
Despite reporting the incident to the police alongside Bella Shmurda, no action was taken.
This, according to him, left his son living in constant fear. Mohbad was also assaulted again during a video shoot with Zlatan.
In his quest for justice, Aloba expressed his inability to resort to traditional means due to his religious beliefs.
He called for a DNA test to be conducted on Mohbad’s son, Liam, should it be deemed necessary, and urged authorities to investigate his son’s death thoroughly.
