Money Doesn't Buy Success — Klopp Warns Newcastle Owners

Liverpool Head Coach Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has warned English Premier counterpart Newcastle new owners that money can not buy success after the Saudi consortium acquired the club.

Klopp said this at a press conference ahead of the Premier League fixture against Watford on Saturday, regarding the money the club now has access to, to bolster their squad with top-notch signings.

He said, “What will it mean for football? A few months we had an issue with clubs building a Super League, and rightly so. But this is building a super team, guaranteed places in the Champions League in a few years,” Klopp told reporters on Friday.

“Newcastle fans will love it, but money doesn’t buy success. They have money to make mistakes, but they will be where they want eventually.”

Klopp also revealed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Fabinho will miss the match against Watford and go straight to Spain from international duty with Brazil, ahead of their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, to complete their coronavirus quarantine.

“We had to sort quarantine issues and the decision we made is the boys will not be here,

“They will go directly to Madrid, wait there for us, hopefully, be able to play against Atletico, then will come back slightly later than us, so then they can come back in our normal procedure again,” Klopp added.
