Mortal Kombat Trailer: Why Fans Are So Excited

Mortal Kombat Trailer: Why Fans Are So Excited

The official trailer for the Mortal Kombat reboot is here and fans can't be more excited as it teases some great things to come.

Based on the popular video game franchise, Mortal Kombat comes after the lackluster performance of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997). This time, the director has made something true to the source material.

In the upcoming 2021 film, washed-up mixed martial arts fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan) is hunted by the deadly Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim). His quest for answers leads him to a group of formidable fighters who must band together to battle the forces of Outworld.

If the trailer is any indication, fans are in for something unique. Let's see why they are excited and look at some of the major highlights from the two-minute clip:

Brutal Action

As those who have seen and played the Mortal Kombat games know, part of what drew them to it in the first place is the hard-hitting action; something that was missing from the first movies.

Well, it seems the producers have learned their lesson as the action seen in the trailer is brutal and shows some well-choreographed sequences and stunts.

One of the scenes that stand out is where Jax (Mehcad Brooks) confronts Sub-Zero. Easily outmatched, the mustached agent has his arms frozen and Sub-Zero cuts them off. This leads to him having to opt for the mechanical arms we all come to know him for.

Gore

Obviously, the movie is rated R because of the amount of blood we see in the trailer. This is another way the director (Simon McQuoid) has decided to stay faithful to video games.

Most movie adaptations of video games have to tone down the violence so as to give it a PG rating but thankfully, that isn't the goal here. As the characters fight, we see their blood spilled while others are equally decapitated.

Let's face the fact; this isn't a plot-centered film. How could it be? It is purely for entertainment and if what is in the trailer is what awaits us, then fans need more movies like these!

Awesome Visual Effects

You can't make a Mortal Kombat movie without adding some special effects and in that regard, this reboot hasn't failed so far. From Sub-Zero doing his thing (freezing the heck out whoever and whatever he wants) to Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) conjuring some lighting, the effects are a visual delight.

Like all trailers, this one aims to give a foretaste of what is to come. That means that what we have glimpsed in the trailer is just the tip of the iceberg!

'Finish Him!'

Hearing the iconic words that are a part of every fight in the video games is something that fans can't stop geeking about. How could they not? This is Mortal Kombat!

For those who may not know, "Finish him!" are the words said to the winner at the end of a fight when it has become clear that the loser has become too weak to continue.

Even though we heard the words in the earlier films, hearing them only brings back so many memories and goosebumps!

Goro

The terrifying monster that is Goro is perhaps one of the best parts of the trailer. This fearsome beast was only shown in a fraction of a second but for fans that was more than enough to see him in his towering might!

Goro is a human-looking giant with four hands who met his end in a very disappointing manner at the hands of Johnny Cage in the first Mortal Kombat movie. Here, thanks to modern technology, he looks more real and more badass!

Hopefully, Goro gets more screen time this time around because bad guys like that only make the good guys shine better at the end of the day!.

Mortal Kombat will be released in theaters and made available for streaming on April 16, 2021.
