MTN Foundation Spends  N3Billion On Scholarships In 12 Years

The MTN Foundation has spent over 3 billion naira on scholarships awarded to over 4,212 students over the past 12 years.

The Director of the Foundation, Dennis Okoro disclosed this at the 2022 MTN Scholarship Award and Induction ceremony in Lagos on Friday.

Okoro said the foundation has awarded scholarships to 370 students in different tertiary institutions, including 300 Science and Technology students, 60 blind students, and 10 of the best students who took the UTME.

He celebrated the recipients and news alumni of the scholarships while he encouraged them to be committed to their visions and make them realities.

“Today is a celebration of excellence exemplified by these exceptional young men and women. You must never grow weary of chasing excellence". 

Director, Science and Technology Lagos State Ministry of Education, Grace  Akinfoyewa, who represented the Lagos State Commissioner of Education, Folashade Adefisayo, commended the foundation, referring to its Corporate Social Responsibility(CRS) projects in Lagos State.

She further said the Lagos State Government's investment in the education result is not a waste but is bringing forth good results.

“Indeed this laudable initiative of awarding scholarships to young Nigerians is highly commendable for the drivable opportunities and in aid of pursuits of academic excellence for science and physically challenged students.

“In our quest to promote STEAM Education, the government has made provision of ICT facilities and e-learning applications in most of our schools, continuously capacity building and training for our teachers and school administrators for effective service delivery".

Director Okoro said the Foundation had been assisting and encouraging the bright students in maximising their potential.
