Multiple Deaths, Injuries In Lagos-Abeokuta Road Crash

At least six persons have been confirmed dead while twelve others sustained varying degrees of injuries in multiple accidents along Lagos-Abeokuta road on Monday.

It was gathered that the multiple crashes occurred at about 2:10 pm at the Lala/Keke axis of the Lagos - Abeokuta old road.

Vehicles involved in the crashes were identified as a Mitsubishi Canter marked XXS595JJJ, Mazda Bus E2000 with registration number LSR266YD and another Mazda E2000 Bus marked LND01YE.

The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Monday.

She identified speeding, dangerous driving and loss of control due to wrong turning, as the suspected causes of the multiple crashes.

Okpe, who is the Public Education Officer, explained that the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter was navigating a turning without observing the road, while the driver of the Mazda bus lost control of the wheels, leading to a crash.

The FRSC publicist disclosed that a total number of 38 persons were involved in the accident, out of which six died while 12 others sustained injuries.

Okpe said the injured victims were rescued and taken to a state hospital in Abeokuta for medical attention, while the corpse have been deposited at the morgue of the facility.
