NAFDAC arrests Lagos businessman for revalidating expired co

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has apprehended a business owner in Lagos State for allegedly revalidating expired cosmetic products.

In a statement on Tuesday, NAFDAC identified the suspect as Kingsley Awuh, the proprietor of Precious Jewel Int’l Nigeria Limited.

According to NAFDAC, Awuh was arrested at his company's location in River Plaza Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, following an intelligence report.

The statement read, “Following an intelligence report, NAFDAC uncovered a business at River Plaza, Trade Fair Complex, engaged in revalidating expired cosmetic products.

“Precious Jewel Int’l Nigeria Limited was found altering expiration dates on products such as White Xpress Cream, Silka B Cream, Bond’s Magic Powder, Bio-Skin Lightening Lotion, Classic Hair System Fair Spotless Cleanser, Oil-Free Acne Control Oil, and Vaseline Blue Seal.”

The agency said its operatives seized packaging and sealing machines and other tools from the facility.

“The owner, Kingsley Awuh, attempted to escape upon the arrival of NAFDAC officers but was tracked down and arrested,” it added.

NAFDAC assured that the suspect will be prosecuted.
