Naira, Fuel Scarcity: Why We Will No Longer Remain Silent — NLC

Naira, Fuel Scarcity: Why We Will No Longer Remain Silent

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has spoken on the seven-day ultimatum given to the federal government to end the fuel and cash crunch, saying it will no longer be silent.

The ultimatum was given on Monday by NLC President Joe Ajero after a meeting with the central working committee of the union.

Speaking on NLC's decision, Ajero stated that it can no longer be quiet over the perennial fuel scarcity and arbitrary increase in the price of petroleum products.

According to him, if the federal government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) do nothing at the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum, all workers will be instructed to stay at home.

“The Congress wishes to inform the Federal Government that we will no longer keep quiet to this issue of perennial fuel scarcity and arbitrary increase on petroleum products.

“The NLC is giving the Federal Government of Nigeria, the agencies of government including the Central Bank of Nigeria and other banking institutions seven working days to address the issue of the cash crunch.

“If they fail to do this at the expiration of the seven days, Congress is directing all workers in the country to stay at home because it has become very difficult to access N1 to board vehicles to our workplace”, he said.
