The FCT Administration has stepped up sensitisation of residents in rural areas across the 17 Chiefdoms of Abuja on the need to beat the Central Bank Nigeria (CBN) January 31 deadline for the phasing out of old N1,000, N200 and N500 Naira notes from circulation.
The Administration through its Department of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement while touring the six area Councils on Wednesday urged grassroots dwellers to take their money to banks before the expiration of the deadline.
Explaining the initiative during a visit to the Palaces of Sarkin Bwari and Esu Bwari, Fatai Bello who led the FCTA team said the FCT Administration under the leadership of the Minister, Muhammad Bello was concerned that the deadline is fast approaching hence the need to sensitise those in the rural communities in the new currency policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
For his part, Sarkin Bwari, Awwal Ijakoro, noted that contrary to popular opinions, the government does notintend to hurt the common man with the new currency policy.
He also urged the government to consider provision of cash collection centres in rural areas, so as to help ameliorate the hardships that the people go through to deposit their old currencies in the banks outside their settlements.
