Naira Redesign
It appears Nigerians, especially Twitter users, are not quite pleased after photos of the redesigned naira notes hit the internet.
President Muhammadu Buhari unveiled the redesigned naira notes of N200, N500 and N1,000 at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa Abuja.
The unveiling of the naira notes which took place on Wednesday preceded the virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) with a number of cabinet members in attendance.
The unveiling, which was slated for December 15, was brought forward to Wednesday by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
When the notes hit the internet, netizens said that CBN did not know the definition of redesigning and had done nothing but bleach the old naira notes.
Some are of the opinion that the CBN should have just contacted Snapchat for help instead of the ridiculous so-called design.
Check out some reactions below:
(1.) One of the things I honestly wished the CBN had done was Retain the Original Colour of the Old Notes. The N1,000 was introduced in 2005. People had over time Psychologically adapted to The “Whiteish, Cream Colour with Brown Markings” as the Complexion of Our Apex Currency. pic.twitter.com/w2FplpkadF

My theory is that a bunch of new notes that were minted dropped in some "chemical" and the hue got affected. Unwilling to "throw" them all away, the CBN thought "redesign the naira!". Of course, they have the power. They then proceeded to recall existing notes and "launch" these. https://t.co/AHkhkZYht4

Can anyone in the CBN put the new beside the old and genuinely call this progress? Even Zimbabwean worthless currency with and its biblical zeroes don’t look as pathetic as this. I just hope it was printed for free. No sane firm will charge for ruining the Naira. #Lifeless

The CBN and Godwin Emefiele, I see what you did here to The 1k? pic.twitter.com/hGZIKoRHHx

So nobody in the CBN is sensible enough to know that the new 200 naira note could easily pass for the old 500 naira note. And since they will both be used together for almost one month, it will create confusion, increase fraud & loss? https://t.co/iMlI0GGE3i

The CBN Governor should be queried and sanctioned for a waste of resources.
Because that’s the most ridiculous redesign out there.— Your Big Sister ? (@eniola_adeeko) November 23, 2022
Honestly I'm getting dizzy staring at the New Naira notes. We can definitely confirm that the decision to change was rushed, & done for reasons other than what the CBN said! Can't they even alter just 1 thing beside Bleaching the old Naira to get the new one? Haba @cenbank! pic.twitter.com/dzOhQYrxSS

So this is what the CBN spent billions on- new filter, new size and the printing papers. We understand the purpose is to control corruption, but the corruption is uncontrollable if the bad eggs still remain in power and the agencies operating with biased mindset. pic.twitter.com/RbY1KlK0mV

@cenbank this is what we called redesigning not that rubbish that you do. This would have been far better and more appealing than that dye-painted note@cenbank is a fraud. Another money manipulation from the CBN..#Naira pic.twitter.com/5MRAeTHzL2

Emefiele and The CBN spent taxpayers' money to redesign the Naira and all they did was slide the Hue and Saturation slider.
