Naira Redesign: FG Dealt With Me, El-Rufai, Ganduje Over Court Case — Matawalle

Naira Redesign: FG Dealt With Me, El-Rufai, Ganduje Over Cou

Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle has stated that he and some of his counterparts were punished for taking the federal government to court over CBN's naira redesign policy.

Matawalle who made the disclosure in a chat with DW Hausa on Thursday blamed his failure to secure a second tenure on his decision to challenge the apex bank's policy.

According to him, some persons worked against his re-election bid in the just concluded governorship election in the state.

The governor who ran under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC) suffered a loss to Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Matawalle further alleged that the plot to deal with him, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje came into play before the election.

“What’s being said is that we went to court over the new naira notes redesign.

“They said myself, Ganduje and El-Rufai would be punished accordingly.

“Three days to the gubernatorial election, they sent over 300 vehicles conveying soldiers into Zamfara.

“Such a high number of soldiers! If they could send them to us to fight insecurity, it would be better.

“But they only sent them during elections”, he said.
