Naira Redesign: Why We Summoned Emefiele — Governors

The governors of the 36 states of Nigeria have given an insight into why Godwin Emefiele of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been summoned over the withdrawal policy and the redesigned naira notes.

Emefiele whose residence was surrounded by policemen on Tuesday is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

Nigerian governors under the umbrella of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have revealed that they will have a meeting with the embattled CBN governor on Thursday.

Speaking through its Director General, Asishana Okauru, the NGF stated that the aim of the convergence is to come up with a solution to the issue of the withdrawal policy and naira redesign.

“For the virtual meeting, the agenda is, 'The Economic and Security implications of naira redesign and withdrawal policy'.

“The discussion promises to foster involvement and dialogue among various stakeholders, including governments and civil society organisations, to devise a solution to the lingering issue.”
