NANS Reinstates Awoyinfa Opeoluwa, Gives Update On Rape Case

Embattled NANs exco member, Awoyinfa Opeoluwa

The investigation committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has reinstated Awoyinfa Opeoluwa as its Public Relations Officer following its investigative report on the alleged rape case.

The association gave the report of the investigation in a statement made available to AllNews Nigeria.

According to the report, the alleged victim denied any attempt by Opeoluwa to rape her, adding that it was all a misunderstanding between both parties.

She added that the issue needed to be settled before both of them go their separate ways.

It was previously reported on August 10, 2022, that Opeoluwa had been suspended as an exco member of NANs following the rape allegation.

However, on August 11, the investigative team met with the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Oyediran Adesoye Oyeyemi, the girl in question and Comr. Awoyinfa Opeoluwa.

"During the course of the meeting, the girl denied any attempt to rape or blackmail her by Awoyinfa while emphasising that the only thing that transpired between them was some misunderstanding while they were dating which had to be resolved before they move on.

"According to her, she had to involve law enforcement officers for clarifications of the issues in order for her and Awoyinfa (her ex) to have a smooth separation."

Furthermore, the girl in question requested that the police arrest and prosecute the rumour mongers who spread the news on Twitter for defamation of character.

She, however, denied demanding any money as a settlement from Awoyinfa.

"Going forward, she demanded that the Police authority arrest and prosecute the source of the rumour (the Twitter user) for defamation of her character and that of Opiano.

"She also denied taking any money from Awoyinfa as a settlement," it further said.

The Commissioner of Police in reaction to the revelation told the committee that he sought the immediate audience of the news originator on Thursday, August 11, 2022, where the offenders took back their words and pleaded for leniency.

The statement confirmed that "in enforcing Alternative Dispute Resolution based on mutual agreement (though the CP insisted on charging them), the two persons were told to tender an unreserved apology to Comr. OPEOLUWA AWOYINFA and the said lady and to also host a Twitter space for clarifications."

Based on the above, AllNews Nigeria reports that Awoyinfa Opeoluwa has been restored to his position as the Public Relations Officer of NANS, Zone D (South-West).
