Nasarawa: Akwanga Youths Call For Traditional Ruler's Removal

Nasarawa: Akwanga Youths Call For Traditional Ruler's Remova

Barely two years on the throne, youths of Nunku village of Akwanga in Nasarawa State have called for the removal of the area's traditional ruler, HRH Ibrahim Adamu Mohammed.

The youths under the aegis of Nunku Concerned Youths who took to the streets in protest on Wednesday said they are fed up with the second-class monarch over his style of leadership.

They stated that his general conduct in and outside the Chiefdom has showed that he is unfit and called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to remove him in order to safeguard the integrity of the throne.

The protesters who were seen carrying placards with inscriptions: “Sarki Ibrahim Must Go”, “Please Remove Him” and “We Don't Want Him Again” among others lamented that for five to six months, he has failed to summon any meeting to sort out the myriad of issues bedeviling the Area.

In a communique issued shortly after the protest, they also accused the second-class monarch of shortchanging some residents of the area over payment of entitlements for the land leased to a Chinese firm for mining purposes and non payment of salaries and allowances to the palace's staff and courtiers running in millions.

“HRH usually abscond very important occasions, such as their traditional council meetings and occasions that will bring good name to the Chiefdom/stool.

“We have a lot of issues to raise on (HRH), but we bring only a few in order to draw the attention of (HE), the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule on the unwanted behaviours of the traditional rulers for appropriate actions.

“We as youths and the community at large are tired of his unregard to the stool as Sarkin Nunku,” the communique signed by Ibrahim Jamiu, a convener of the group reads further.

Ibrahim succeeded his late father, HRH Adamu Mohammed in February 2021.
