Nasarawa state adult education facilitators and supervisor
Nasarawa State Government has tasked Supervisors and Facilitators of Adults Education Centres in the state to intensify efforts to see all adult learners acquire the basic skills of reading and writing.
State Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatu Jimaita Sabo stated this on Wednesday while granting audience to 13 supervisors of Adults Education Centres in the state in her office.
The Commissioner said the meeting provided the government with the opportunity to interface with relevant stakeholders in the Adult Education space on how best to improve the quality of Adult Education in the state.
"We are more interested in the quality of education offered and not the number of the centres. Let's limit the numbers of the centres and have more learners acquire the basic skills of reading and writing."
She emphasised that the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule is committed to providing quality and accessible education to all citizens irrespective of their age and across divides.
Sabo, therefore, urged the supervisors to ensure Adult learners in their Centres know how to read and write to enable them to understand and contribute positively to the policies, and programmes of government especially, in the education sector of the state.
While appreciating their effort in eradicating or reducing the level of illiteracy in our society, Hon. Sabo assured the supervisors of the government's support at all times to administer dividends of democracy to the people in the state.
Earlier, Director, Adults and Non-Formal Education, Malam Okaku Sani Giza informed the Commissioner that there are 300 Adult Education Centres across the state with Basic literacy classes with a students population of 1098 mainly taught in Hausa language and the post-literacy classes with a students population of 767 are receiving their lessons in the English language with a commensurate number of teachers of one per centre.
