Nasarawa: Obi Ward APC chairman suspended

The Chairman of Obi electoral ward of Nasarawa State, Usman Akara has been suspended after a vote of no confidence was passed by 25 Executive Committee members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The 25 members of the Executive Committee, said Article 21(d)(vi) of the Constitution of the party gave them the power to remove the Chairman.

In a communique issued on Sunday after an emergency meeting, the 25 Exco Members, said the embattled Chairman has also been suspended from the governing party till further notice.

They alleged that the Chairman was working with disgruntled elements who are bent in causing confusion in the State in gross violation of Article 13(powers of party organs), section 13.13(the ward executive committee) of the party’s constitution.

They also alleged that he has shown apparent disdain and disrespect to the chieftains and stakeholders of the party at all levels and runs the affairs of the party as his personal enterprise.

Other offences include abuse of office and diversion of funds and other incentives allocated to the ward which had continued unabated since assuming office.

When contacted, the embattled Chairman, Usman Akara, said he wasn’t aware of the suspension and exonerated himself from any wrongdoing.

The Exco members who signed the communique include the Financial Secretary, Public Relations Officer, Legal Officer II, Youth Leader, Auditor, Treasurer and Welfare Director among others.
