Nasarawa: Police detain two for starving man to death over w

Shettima Muhammad, the Acting Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, announced the arrest of two men on Monday for allegedly locking up their 35-year-old cousin and starving him to death over witchcraft suspicions.

He stated that on November 30, police received information that the deceased, Mohammed Sani, had his hands and legs tied and was imprisoned in his room where he was starved to death.

Muhammad stated that the family buried Sani's body quickly, but that investigations were ongoing to apprehend others implicated in the crime.

He went on to say that the two arrested suspects denied any involvement, alleging that they only took part in the burial after discovering Sani's deteriorating body in his room.

Meanwhile, Muhammad revealed that 16 people were detained for various offences around the state between October and November.

Ten of the suspects were arrested for armed robbery, five for kidnapping, and one for defilement, according to him.

Police also recovered seven weapons and 27 rounds of live ammunition from the suspects, he said.

In the case of defilement, Muhammad stated that the suspect, 21-year-old Habu Yusuf, was detained on October 31 for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl.

He stated that the victim's mother reported the case to authorities after she noticed her daughter walking unusually on the fateful day.

"Preliminary investigation showed that the suspect had also sexually molested two of his elder brother's children, aged eight and 10 years before nemesis caught up with him," he said.
