NCC temporarily halts MTN-Glo disconnection amid resolution

In a momentous event, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has temporarily suspended MTN's gradual disconnection of Glo.

Reuben Mouka, Director of Public Affairs at NCC, announced the decision in a news release on Wednesday.

The decision followed successful negotiations between the two telecom behemoths, which resolved a long-standing interconnection debt dispute.

Concerned about the potential impact on consumers, the NCC actively sought to mediate a peaceful conclusion that prioritised consumer interests while still ensuring the smooth running of the national telecom network.

The regulatory board has deferred the disconnection for 21 days, beginning January 17, 2024. During this time, MTN and Glo are expected to complete the resolution of all outstanding concerns.

While emphasising the necessity of clearing interconnect debts for regulatory compliance, the NCC strongly advises all telecom operators to carefully adhere to the terms and conditions of their licences and interconnection agreements.
