Ndume Hosts EU Ambassador, Seeks More Support In Health, Edu

The Senator representing Borno South, Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume has hosted the European Union Delegation Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi.

The senator while appreciating the ambassador for her visit, sought more support in the health and education sector.

He noted that the areas were the worst hit by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state especially the Gwoza local government area of the state.

He noted that the insurgents had declared the LGA their headquarters at the height of their activities in the past years.

He stressed the need for improved funding for the health sector to respond to the numerous challenges faced by the LGA.

Ndume said the only hospital in the LGA has been overstretched as a result of the town's population and lack of equipment in addition to the shortage of medical personnel.

The Senator further applauded the United Nations for its effort in building 500 housing units in the LGA while calling on the EU to follow suit.

Earlier in her remarks, the ambassador who was accompanied by the Political Adviser, Press and Information to the EU Delegation, Osaro Odemwinge said her visit was to discuss issues of insecurity, humanitarian services and the forthcoming 2023 elections.

Isopi highlighted some of the working relationships between the Union and some Nigerian Government Agencies like the INEC, the Humanitarian Ministry as well as interventions in crisis-prone areas.

She explained that she was in Borno State in July 2022 where she met the State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum and the Commander of Operation Lafia Dole and undertook an assessment visit to Bama.

Reacting to the senator's request, she appreciated him while promising to treat the request as a priority.
