NEDC Trains 150 Teachers On Preparation Of Pupils For Examin

A two-week training has been organised by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for 150 primary school teachers on the procedures for preparing pupils for private and public examinations.

This was disclosed by the Assistant Manager of the Education Endowment Fund (EEF), Sandra Dagala, at the formal inauguration of the training in Yola on Wednesday.

According to Dagala, the training will enlighten the teachers on the technicalities of answering examination questions.

She also revealed that the commission had concluded arrangements for the disbursement of scholarships for students from the northeast in the Undergraduate, Masters and PhD levels towards the promotion of education.

She added that NEDC also organised sports competitions including football, athletics, table tennis and lawn tennis to boost recreational activities.

“The initiative would promote societal bonds and self-esteem among the younger generation in the region,” she said.

Dagala also noted that the commission is set to organise a campaign to sensitise youths in the region on the dangers of drug abuse.

According to the Assistant Manager, the commission will also provide classrooms, pieces of furniture and learning materials across 112 LGAs in the region.

Aminu Ciroma, the Programme Coordinator from Modibbo Adamawa University, Yola, praised the Commission, expressing confidence that the teacher training program would enhance the capacity of teachers in the state.

Ciroma noted that the training is one of the solutions to address the challenges facing the education sector in the North East.

He added that it would enable teachers to transfer their knowledge to pupils in their respective schools.

Michael Tarfa, the Adamawa Coordinator of NEDC, emphasised that teacher training is one of the commission's core initiatives aimed at ensuring high-quality education in the region.

Tarfa urged teachers to actively participate in the program and take advantage of the opportunity to improve themselves, thereby making a difference in their respective schools.

Ibrahim Isah, the Social Mobilization Officer of Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), appreciated NEDC's support for the refresher course for teachers aimed at achieving quality education in the state.

Isah further explained that participants were selected from 21 local government areas of the state to receive the training, which would help reduce the high failure rate of pupils and students in examinations.

Malam Auwal Sa’ad, who spoke on behalf of the participants, expressed appreciation to NEDC and the Adamawa government for the capacity-building workshop.

Sa’ad described the training as a remarkable exercise that would encourage positive changes in their respective schools
