Neighbour’s Pit Bulls Maul 88-Year-Old To Death

A Pitbull.

A neighbour's pit bulls in South Africa have allegedly mauled an 88-year-old Cape Town woman to death while in her compound.

Ward councilman Angus Mckenzie said in a statement on Wednesday that the event had devastated the community and asked officials to perform an extensive probe of the incident.

On Tuesday, Olga Grill was at home in Bonteheuwel when her neighbour's two pit bulls reportedly jumped her reasonably high fence and attacked her.

“The pit bulls gained access into her property and bit her to death,” said Mckenzie.

“Our deepest sympathy goes to the family and friends of the deceased after suffering this most horrific and tragic death.”

Belinda Abraham, the spokesperson for the SPCA, said: “We can confirm that two dogs from the Bonteheuwel area were impounded by law enforcement and admitted into the care of the SPCA at about 10.30 pm last night [Tuesday].

“We don’t know the circumstances of the attack but we are saddened by this incident which again highlights the need for the development and implementation of stronger regulations/legislation with regards to the keeping of power breeds.”

Grill's murder is being investigated by police, who have started an inquest docket.

Grill's corpse was discovered in her garden by her son around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Western Cape police spokesperson Capt Frederick van Wyk.

"According to accounts, Bishop Lavis SAPS officers responded to a lady being assaulted by pit bulldogs and the details of this event are being investigated."
