NEMA distributes relief materials to victims of boat mishap

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief materials to victims of boat mishap in two communities of Adamawa State.

The communities included Gurin ward and Garin Alhaji in Fufore Local Government Area of the state.

The support followed the approval of the NEMA's Director General, Mustapha Habib Ahmed.

As contained in a statement on Monday morning by the agency, the distribution of the items was led by the agency's Yola operations office.

The NEMA team which was led by Ene Pius presented the items at the Gurin Development Area secretariat.

While conveying the DG's condolences to the victims' families, Pius prayed for "the swift recovery of the survivors."

He also stressed the need for safety measures, including the use of life jackets and avoiding boat overloading.

The items were received by the council chairman represented by his deputy, Joseph Petal Hamma Joda.

Hamma Joda appreciated the NEMA's Director General and the Adamawa State Government for the prompt support to the victims of the boat mishap.

The statement added that: "Hon. Jaafar B Hassan, Councillor representing Gurin ward, expressed gratitude to the federal government for their benevolence, assuring NEMA that all items would reach the intended beneficiaries."
