New Lexus ES Gets Safety, Style Update

Lexus has introduced a big touchscreen, new safety tech and styling updates to the new Lexus ES at the 19 Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. 

Over 30years  ES  "Executive Sedan" is a key model in the Lexus lineup, having first appeared with the launch of the first-generation LS flagship sedan in 1989.

The ES has been well received by many customers around the world for its high level of quietness, high-quality ride comfort, and spacious cabin. Cumulative sales of the ES since its initial debut so far total approximately 2.65 million units in more than 80 countries and regions.

The New ES has achieved further enhancement to superior quietness and ride comfort, which forms the origin of Lexus, as well as further refinements to its high-quality overall comfort. The ES seamless connection between acceleration, and steering in any driving situation, development pursued a liners response that is faithful to the driver’s intentions.

The exterior styling comes with monocular lamps that feature new, compact lamp units, while triple-beam lamps feature BladeScanTM AHS (Adaptive High-beam System) for improved functionality, while the use of new slender lamp units results in a sharp look.

The 17-inch wheels come with thicker spoke ends, emphasise the shine of machined surfaces and are layered in "V" formations to produce a sporty impression.

Two colors available for the first time on the ES are Sonic Iridium, which takes advantage of strong shadows to further accentuate the shape of the vehicle, and Sonic Chrome, which exhibits a metallic quality in a high-gloss finish.

The base screen comes in at just eight inches, but you can option up to the 12.3-inch screen. The display has also been moved 4.3 inches closer to the driver.

It also gets a new adaptive cruise control system that will allow the vehicle to fully stop and move again on its own.

Other meaningful changes include an upgrade to Lexus Safety Sense Plus 2.5, which includes a new millimeter-wave radar system to speed up pedestrian and cyclist detection for the automatic emergency braking tech.

Lexus expects the 2022 ES lineup to hit dealers in the US in fall 2021 and will release pricing information closer to that time.

Actively employed in the new ES are advanced safety technologies, such as an evolved Lexus Safety System +, with the aim of enabling drivers to enjoy even safer driving.

Lexus International Chief Engineer Tetsuya Aoki said that the goal of the company was to heighten the quality of ES and add new value to the users as it improves in quietness and ride comfort.

"Our goal was to deepen the high quality of the ES and to add new value. In addition to further improving quietness and ride comfort, we pursued linearity in vehicle movement, in response to steering wheel operation, that is faithful to the driver's intentions,”

“When it comes to styling, we refined the elegance that is characteristic of the ES, and we have created new modernity. In development, to exceed customer expectations, we identified elements that could be improved, and we thoroughly raised every detail to the highest levels of completion. I would like people to experience by ride in the ES the thoughts of the development team, which closely adhered to the idea of 'Always On' with the aim of making ever-better cars."
