Kano State Government and the Islamic Clerics from Tijjaniyya, Qadiriyya and Izala sects in the State have called on the Federal Government to extend the deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the use of old naira notes.
According to them, the extension is needed as the new notes are unavailable.
The call was the resolution of a meeting attended by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his deputy and APC Gubernatorial candidate Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, his running mate, Murtala Sule Garo, APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas and the Islamic Clerics.
At the meeting which was held at the Government House on Thursday, the clerics noted that economic activities have been paralysed in Kano the commercial nerve centre of Northern Nigeria due to hardship caused by the shortage of the new Naira notes.
The meeting, therefore, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the suffering caused to the people of the State due to the shortage of the new naira notes and extend the deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
