New Services Centre To Address Cyber Risks On Digital Infras

The recently established National Shared Service Centre (NSSC), according to the Federal Government, will address new cyber risks to Nigeria's digital infrastructure.

This was said by Prof. Muhammad Abubakar, the managing director of Galaxy Backbone Limited, to reporters on Tuesday in Abuja following President Muhammadu Buhari's commissioning of the NSSC.

According to Abubakar, the Agency used 99.9% of its own resources to execute the project.

He declared that the centre will ensure adequate data storage and defend against cyberattacks for all government digital data.

Since all government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are digital, according to Mohammed, the centre is essential.

"Today’s 4th Industrial-Revolution world of rapid changes is driven by ubiquitous connectivity to the cyberworld and advanced digital technologies.

“As the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy said, the entire building was 99 per cent funded by Galaxy Backbone limited internally generated revenue.

"There was no intervention from anywhere.

“The remaining one per cent is the provision of some equipment.

"We have a security operation centre inside the newly commissioned NSSC, built mainly to curb cyber threats.

“We have seen a number of emails coming into Galaxy’s network and other government agencies,” he said.

He added that some of the equipment and devices were put in place to ensure that those emails did not threaten the government’s system.

“Nigeria is certainly becoming well-placed to take its pride of place in the emerging digital world,” he said.
