New Sokoto VC Takes Over Responsibility

New Sokoto VC Takes Over Responsibility

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Sokoto State, Professor Bashiru Garba has officially begun his duties in the institution.

AllNews Nigeria reports that the former Secretary to the Sokoto State Government (SSG) was appointed as the VC of the university in April.

Garba took over from the former VC, Prof. Sani Dangoggo on Thursday after a short ceremony at the institution's Senate Chamber.

The new VC, having accepted the responsibility promised to give priority to the completion of the staff quarters of the university and monitor the activities of the on-campus students.

“I have the belief that befitting accommodation for the staff within the premises will go a long way in alleviating their hardship.

“This will enable full responsibility and serve to monitor the activities of the students living in the campus,” he said.

Garba also promised to build a staff school for children of the members of staff of the institution to help reduce the stress of taking them and bringing them back from schools far away.

Garba said the university would leverage the proposed Law School in Argungu, Kebbi State, and build a Faculty of Law.

On the ongoing ASUU strike, the VC urged the union to remember the reason for its existence and to consider the students involved.

“Whatever we are doing we should first consider the primary responsibility of being in the system and think of the situation we put our students into,” he said

Garba appreciated the State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal for his appointment while praising the former VC for his achievements.

He also acknowledged the students and staff of the school for supporting Dagoggo, requesting the same during his tenure.
