Suleiman Sadiq Umar
The Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar in his new year message has assured his constituents of effective and productive representation.
Umar promises to remain committed to addressing the enormous challenges facing Kwara North through a partnership with relevant stakeholders and government at all levels in attracting infrastructural, economic and human capital developments to the region.
“Some of my key focus areas are; interventions in the health and educational sectors because health and education are the major key elements that stimulate development and growth of the society.
"Therefore in the first two years budget cycle, we have made serious efforts in bringing health care service delivery closer to our people. In our first year, we completed the rehabilitation and provision of medical equipment of (4) primary health care centres and we are currently rehabilitating (13) more to make it a total of (17). Although the cost of renovation and rehabilitation is almost the same as the construction of new hospitals we chose to rehabilitate dilapidated and abandoned ones because of both their strategic locations and also to preserve old investments and structures.
"Similarly, over 3000 constituents have also been given free medical, ophthalmological and surgical outreaches in the last two years. An additional 4000 will benefit from free medical services from January 2022. Again we shall be supplying essential drugs and medical equipment to selected facilities this month.
"In the educational sector we have constructed and renovated about 8 schools and more are still coming this year. We have also supplied instructional materials and furniture to selected schools across the senatorial district
"Despite the economic difficulty in the country we have supported over 200 students with scholarship support from primary school level to PhD levels. We have also been able to secure Federal government scholarships for undergraduates and Overseas PhD students.
"Closed linked to health is the supply of potable water, therefore we drilled over 120 hand pump, solar and motorised boreholes across the senatorial district. We have also repaired over 100 damaged and abandoned boreholes.
"We are also currently reconstructing and Asphalting townships roads across the Senatorial district.
"Over 600 Kwara Northerners have been empowered on one skill or the other and more are still going to be trained to start this month.
"We have focused on Agriculture, bridges, transformers, solar street lights etc.
"The social investment program we began two years ago has continued uninterrupted. the old, weak, vulnerable and widows have enjoyed a monthly stipend of 5 thousand nairas to enable them to meet basic needs such as food and drugs.
"We have tried to secure jobs for our youth in various federal MDAs and military/paramilitary institutions as challenging as this is in Nigeria today we were able to secure some successes," he said.
He continued that his core mandate is to represent his constituents in the red chamber by way of lawmaking and motions receiving the highest priority. He mentioned that he has been able to sponsor 20 bills and over 10 motions whilst also co-sponsoring about 20 other motions.
The lawmaker admonished his constituents to continue to support government at all levels in fulfilling their campaign promises and wish all Nigerians a prosperous 2022.
