Newcastle Eliminate Man Utd From Carabao Cup

Newcastle eliminated Manchester United from the Carabao Cup following a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The fourth round clash was a repeat of last year’s final, though both managers named much-changed sides.

United fell behind after 28 minutes thanks to Livramento’s surging run which set up Miguel Almiron to open the scoring.

Their woes were worsened just eight minutes later when Chelsea loanee Lewis Hall volleyed home a brilliant effort from the edge of the box to give the Magpies a comfortable 2-0 lead before the interval.

The hosts were then punished on the hour as former Arsenal man Joe Willock delivered a hammer blow with a solo run and stunning finish.

Willock’s goal drew the sting from any chance of a United fightback as fans left the stadium in their droves.

The result means United have now slumped to an eighth defeat in 15 games in all competitions for the first time since the 1962-63 season.

Newcastle will travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea, who beat Blackburn 2-0 in the fourth round to advance to the quarter-finals.
