Newly Elected Kano LG Chairman Dead

Newly elected Kano Local Government Chairman, Ali Namadi is dead.

Ali Namadi who hails from Bebeji Local Government Area of the state was confirmed dead by his campaign’s public relations officer, Ibrahim Tiga on Tuesday, January 19.

Tiga explained that the late Chairman drove himself to Bebeji General Hospital for medical attention before he gave up the ghost.

The cause of Namadi's death is not yet known, but his funeral prayers would take place in his hometown, Bebeji Tuesday

Namadi was among the successful All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidates in the just concluded local government councils elections held on Saturday 16th January 2021.

The APC on Saturday won all 44 Chairmanship and 484 councillorship seats and returned elected.

The winners were declared despite accredited observers alleged cases of underage thumbprinting of ballots at two polling units as well as low turn out of voters during the election.

Prior to the declaration of the election’s results, Governor Abdullah Umar Ganduje had predicted maximum victory for APC in the entire council.

Ganduje who made the obvious prediction shortly after casting the ballot on Saturday at his 001 Ganduje primary polling unit, Ganduje village, Dawakin-Tofa local government area, however, clarified the expectant victory would be justified through the ballot and not by any form of rigging or intimidation.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) is yet to react to how children allegedly voted in the just concluded Local Government election.

Several pictures and videos circulating on social media show children said to be between the ages of nine and 16, being accredited by electoral officials wearing face masks with the KANSIEC logo.

In one of the videos, a young boy who appears to be between the age of 11 and 13, at Gwazaye polling unit, Kumbotso Local Government Area, was seen fixing his thumbprint against a party logo while other children struggled to receive their ballot papers.

Although many first doubted if the videos and pictures were recent, they were soon authenticated when officials wearing face masks in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols were seen.
