NFF Secretary-General tasks Golden Eaglets on WAFU B 3rd pla

The General Secretary of Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Mohammed Sanusi has charged the Nigerian U-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets to go all out and play Tuesday's third-place match against hosts Ghana in the WAFU B tournment like a final match.

The defending WAFU B champions were beaten 1-0 by Cote d' Ivoire in their semifinals clash on Sunday which on paper means that they will not defend the title they won two years ago.

The regional tournament is expected to produce West Africa's representatives at the CAF U-17 AFCON next year.

However, with the latest confusion over the number of teams expected to participate at the 2025 CAF U-17 AFCON in Morocco, the NFF scribe believes the Eagles now have a chance for redemption and a shot at playing in Morocco next year.

The world football governing body, FIFA, increased the number of teams that will participate at the U-17 World Cup from 24 to 48 which invariably means that the number of teams playing in the qualification series will naturlly increase.

“We are still awaiting clarity on the number of teams that will qualify to the U17 AFCON from this tournament. Some people have said only three teams; some said four teams.

"It is therefore important that our boys go out there and play their hearts out to finish in third place, Sanusi stated in an interview with sports journalists.

“The Black Starlets will not be an easy ride. They are the home side and they will bank on the support of the fans. But our boys have what it takes to achieve victory.”

The third-place match will kick off at 3pm Ghana time (4pm Nigeria time) at the University of Accra Stadium, ahead of the final match between Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire, which commences at 6pm Ghana time (7 pm Nigeria time).
