NFF unveils Finidi George as Super Eagles coach in Abuja

NFF officially confirms Amokachi, James, Baruwa as assistant coaches

The Nigeria Football Federation officially unveiled Finidi George on Monday as the Super Eagles head coach in a ceremony held at the Nigeria Football Federation Secretariat, Abuja.

The Sports Minister, John Enoh joined NFF President, Ibrahim Gasau and Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi in the ceremony two weeks after his appointment was made known.

Finid George, 52, led two-time African club champions, Enyimba to win the Nigeria Premier League last season and led them to third place on the log before his recent appointment.

The Tunisia '94 Africa Cup of Nations winner with the Super Eagles is expected to work with former teammates in the national team, Daniel Amokachi, Benjamin James and Olatunji Baruwa as three of his assistants in the Eagles.

NFF President Gasau noted that Finidi has been given the 'free hand' to pick his assistants.

Amokachi had been an assistant coach in the Super Eagles under the late Stephen Keshi and was a one-time head coach of the home-based Super Eagles that campaigned at the 2010 WAFU Cup.

Allnews.ng reports that the names of the assistant coaches were put forward by the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation while Finidi is expected to bring two expatriate coaches which he is allowed by his employers to do.

However, this piece of information was only officially confirmed by the Communications Department of the Nigeria Football Federation on Monday in a release made available to Allnews.ng.

Finidi's first task will be to lead the Eagles to June's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.

The Eagles started the race to the 2026 World Cup with two draws last year.
