NGO Partners Unity Bank To Train 200 Students On Vocational

As a way of reducing unemployment rate in the country, Kitan Training Hub has partnered with Unity Bank to train about 200 undergraduate students on various vocational skills in Ibadan 

Victor Olojede, the Special Assistant to Oyo State Governor on Student Affairs, while speaking at the opening of the training on Wednesday, he said government has been doing a lot to empower the youth in the state.

He said that government would not relent in its support for the overall development of the students.

“We are ever ready to support initiatives like this, to see that skill acquisition is available for the youth and students alike.

“Empowering the youth is the core interest of the government to see that there can be alternative solutions to job creation through skill acquisition,” Olojede said.

He added that the government would continue to give support to ensure that more youths will benefit from the training.

Also commenting, Dr Opeyemi Ojesina,Head, Retail and SME banking group, Unity Bank, Dr Opeyemi Ojesina, said that MSMEs played major roles in economic prosperity.

He expressed happiness that the participants at the training has shown that the future is bright for Nigeria.

“The good thing is that the demography of the participants is between 18 and 30, and the questions they have asked have shown the willingness and inquisitiveness to learn.

“We just hope that they will be able to translate it into meaningful results in the coming months and years.

“For Unity Bank, economic prosperity is important and if you check our trajectory, you will see that we are particular about partnering with anything that has to do with prosperity.

“So we have lots of initiatives working with youths, the universities and others.

"We just believe that once we solve the need of that demography, we will be able to solve most of the needs that are crippling us as a nation,” Ojesina said.

Taiwo Oshunniyi, Chief Executive Officer of Kitan Training Hub, said the aim of the training is to bridge the skill gap and empower students.

“The training will help solve the unemployment problem in Nigeria, because it is the skill gap that we are filling,” she said.

Oshunniyi appreciated the bank for partnering with the hub and for training the students on financial literacy.
