NGO Tasks Educational Institutions On Repeating Rules To Stu

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), True Teachers Consulting Services (TTCS) has requested educational institutions to run through their rules and regulations in their handbooks on the assembly ground as a form of daily reminder.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NANS) reports that a consultant in the organisation, Violet Ubah said the move would keep the children informed on the consequences of disobeying the rules.

"It is expected as a matter of necessity for every educational institution to have their handbook that must have clearly-written guidelines to be signed by both students and parents.

“The take-off of schools' daily activities starts from the assembly ground and must be used judiciously to be reminding students of the loyalty they signed to keep.

“Most schools don’t play up and implement the information in their handbook because they hardly go back to take emphasis on the contents to the hearing of the students for compliance.

“And as a result of the negligence, disorderliness will set in contrary to expectations spelt out in the handbook which I attribute as a lapse on the part of students and school management.

“A day should be set aside every month to read out the handbook to the hearing of students even members of school staff to remind them of what is expected of them,” Ubah expressed.

She added that students should be punished when they go against the rules as a way of correcting them but advised that they should be cautious to avoid inflicting pain on them.

"Where there is no rule, there won’t be disciplined and that is why every teacher should be involved in disciplining students.

“Most schools have a disciplinary committee and a special person to flog the students.

"This is not good enough because the students will look at this person as a wicked person,” she added.

"We should not wait for things to go wrong whereby students would be made to face disciplinary committee.

"We should correct in love to help them retrace their steps and do the right thing always," she added.

Ubah noted that parents should also play their part by meeting their children's demands and ensuring they appear decent.
