NGX records historic high, surging to 74,289.02 points

The NGX has crossed the 74,000 barrier in a historic trading day, as the All-Share Index gained 1.21% to settle at 74,289.02 points.

This comes only one day after the NGX surpassed 73,000 and the NGX market's worth surpassed N40 trillion.

Thursday's gains in equities brought the market valuation to N40.652 trillion. TRANSCORP, MULTIVERSE, and INFINITY all outperformed the market, rising 10%, 9.96%, and 9.87%, respectively.

In terms of trading volume, 760.93 million units were moved, compared to 411.21 million units the day before. In terms of value, it was N13.03 billion, an increase from N12.83 billion yesterday.

The NGX All-Share Index completed Thursday's trading session at 74,289.02 points, a 1.21% increase. The index fluctuated from 73,397.71 points at the low to 74,292.82 points at the high. Year-to-date, the percentage is +44.95%, with a market capitalization of N40.65 trillion. The total number of units traded was 760.93 million.

In Thursday's market, the biggest gainers included IMG, which closed at N9.35 with a 10.00% gain, TRANSCORP, which closed at N8.47 with a 10.00% gain, OKOMUOIL, which closed at N263.90 with a 9.96% gain, MULTIVERSE, which closed at N12.70 with a 9.96% gain, and INFINITY, which closed at N4.12 with a 9.87% gain. During the trading day, these equities performed admirably.

The top losers in Thursday's trading session were JOHNHOLT, which closed at N2.34 with a 10% drop, ELLAHLAKES, which closed at N2.90 with a 9.94% down, TRIPPLEG, which closed at N2.15 with a 9.66% drop, REGALINS, which closed at N0.34 with an 8.11% drop, and UACN, which closed at N15.00 with a 5.96% drop. These equities had significant drops, reflecting the market's inconsistent performance.

ABBEYBDS (+9.09%) led in trading volume with 224.08 million units, followed by ACCESSCORP (+1.75%) with 65.80 million units, TRANSCORP (+10.00%) with 65.30 million units, UBA (+2.97%) with 45.98 million units, and GTCO (+0.38%) with 43.59 million units.  

NESTLE (-1.74%) had the highest value with N2.65 billion, followed by GEREGU (0.00%) with N1.82 billion, GTCO (+0.38%) with N1.74 billion, ACCESSCORP (+1.75%) with N1.52 billion, and UBA (+2.97%) with N1.20 billion.

The 5.4% gain in MTNN contributed significantly to today's market gain. Other SWOOT category members that gained were ZENITHBANK (+0.39%) and GTCO (+0.38%). AIRTELAFRI, BUAFOODS, BUACEMENT, DANGCEM, and SEPLAT, on the other hand, saw no price modifications.

Tier-1 bank equities were all up, with gains posted by FBNH (+4.80%), UBA (+2.97%), GTCO (+0.38%), ACCESSCORP (+1.75%), and ZENITHBANK (+0.39%).
