NIGCOMSAT Hails Pantami On New Appointment

Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Ltd, has hailed Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Pantami on his appointment to Chair the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Forum by the International Telecommunication Union, (ITU).

This is contained in a statement signed by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs and Special Project of NIGCOMSAT, Adamu Idris, in Abuja on Thursday.

The Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT Ltd, Dr Abimbola Alale, expressed joy and satisfaction on the choice of the Minister adding that it was due to his diligence, hardwork and passion in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Industry.

Alale said there couldn’t have been any better choice to lead the forum session recognising the tremendous impact of Pantami’s leadership in the ICT industry in the country.

“Since Pantami assumed duty as the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, the focus and direction of the industry on the Nigeria economy has changed to a more fruitful, impactful and growing one,’’ Alale said.

Alale said that recognising him to Chair such important and global event could not be unconnected with his role and policies in the growth and contribution of the ICT sector to the Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

She, however, wishes Pantami success in the conduct of the forum saying that the gains the country would have during and after the event would be unquantifiable.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that WSIS Forum serves as a key forum for discussing the role of ICT as a means of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and targets.

The WSIS Forum also provides a platform to track the achievements of WSIS Action Lines in collaboration with the UN Agencies involved and provides information and analysis of the implementation of WSIS Action Lines since 2005.
