Niger Assembly Recommends Suspension of 15 Council Chairmen

The Niger State House of Assembly has recommended the suspension of fifteen council chairmen in the state over contract financing loans.

The recommendation was given by the house committee set up to investigate the issue. 

The committee said the decision was necessary to allow them conduct their investigation without hinderance. 

The chairman of the committee, Abdulmalik Madaki made this known during plenary on Wednesday.

He said the affected councils include: Mokwa, Gbako, Suleja, Gurara, Tafa, Paikoro, Bosso, Agwara, Borgu, Kontagora, Wushishi, Magama, Mashegu, Mariga and Rijau local government areas. 

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Madaki said the recommendation was in line with the provisions of 128 and 129 of the Nigeria's 1999 constitution as amended.

He also added that it was inline with the provision of section 90, sub section 1 A, B and C of local governments 2001 as amended.

According to him: ”The problem had added extra burden for the smooth running of local governments in the state.”
