Niger Government To Remodel Gurara Waterfall

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has constituted a committee to remodel the Gurara Waterfalls in Niger State and ensure a quick as well as smooth take-off of the project.

The Governor, while receiving a presentation of the report by a South African Consultant, Elise Van Gass-Viviers, said the committee is to be chaired by the Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Rifkatu Adamu Chidawa.. 

Governor Sani Bello said the committee is expected to reach out to the communities surrounding Gurara Waterfalls, stressing that the forest vanguards who are to safeguard it are also to be drawn from the communities. 

He tasked the committee to ensure that the feasibility study of the area is done and advertisement for the project rolled out immediately.

The committee is also expected to sensitize members of the communities on the disadvantages of deforestation and hunting within the 10,000 hectares radius of the site.

"The project is going to be 100% private sector driven with very small component of state intervention in terms of putting in place necessary steps to lay the foundation", the governor stated.

He said advert on the project should start immediately to introduce the unveiling of the project to enable it get the necessary attention from local and international investors.

Governor Bello called for the need to immediately resolve the issue of compensation of residents in the affected communities so as to hasten up take-off oftheproject.

He suggested that members of the surrounding communities be included in the entire scheme and be trained on the management of the entire resort.
