Niger's Minister Of Labour Dies

The Minister of Employment and Labour in Niger, Mohamed Ben Omar, died on Sunday, the minister's party disclosed this without detailing his death.

The news of the minister's death was revealed by the Social Democratic Party through instant messaging app WhatsApp.

It was revealed that the minister died at the main hospital in the country's capital of Niamey.

According to the World Health Organisation, Niger has recorded a total of 736 confirmed coronavirus cases, with a fatality of 35.

Niger's President, Mahamadou Issoufou, said that he received the news with a “heavy heart”.

Mohamed's political career kicked off in 1999 under president Mamadou Tandja, while serving in other ministerial roles and the parliament.

He was aged 65 years.
